Custodial Services seeks an enthusiastic self‑starter to join its team of committed staff providing custodial services in a wide variety of environments at the main campus in Guelph. As an integral part of the University team, you will work closely together to ensure that all residents, guests, and staff receive a clean, safe, secure, comfortable, and fully maintained environment. As a Custodian 4, you will be a vital part of the University’s frontline, working in the student residential, guest, and employee environments.
You will represent the University in a manner that reflects the University’s values, goals, and strategic direction and demonstrates the Department’s commitment to the well‑being of all individuals visiting campus.
You will uphold the University’s ideal standard of service by gathering waste, straightening up surfaces and tidying spaces, utilizing a variety of ergonomic cleaning tools. You will ensure your areas are clean and well stocked facilities while performing your work as scheduled and prioritized in accordance with the Department’s standards of cleanliness and service. As a Custodian 4, you will provide specialized cleaning services by washing, pressure cleaning and scrubbing fixtures, walls, doors and glass.
The Custodian 4 may also be required to perform custodial duties associated with lower custodial classifications such as collecting and disposing of garbage, vacuuming, dusting, wet mopping floors, maintaining washroom facilities and floors, moving furniture and equipment, replenishing supplies and other duties as assigned.
A minimum Grade 10 education (Grade 12 preferred), preferably combined with one (1) year custodial experience from a major institutional sector such as education, post‑secondary education, medical/hospital or service industry. A valid G license is required, as well as twelve months of custodial experience at the University of Guelph. You may be required to use various hazardous workplace materials such as environmentally safe and chemical cleaning products.
You may be required to operate powered/non‑powered equipment and tools, including vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, etc. Routine physical activities include standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting and carrying light objects comfortably (less than 25 pounds). Candidates must be physically able to repeatedly conduct the diverse range of motions required for a wide variety of cleaning functions. You may be exposed to biohazardous materials, including bodily fluids, vomit, urine, blood etc.,
requiring appropriate handling and disposal. Applicants from off campus will be expected to provide an acceptable criminal reference check at their own expense if selected as the successful candidate.
