Position Overview

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Project Manager, Parks
, within the Parks Department. Reporting to the Manager of Park and Trail Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering park and trail capital projects, budget and project forecast management. Projects will include a range of park and trail design projects, construction projects, policy and development of guidelines and standard processes with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement processes.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manage various park and trail construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Manage various park and trail programming, way finding, design and/or policy projects.
  • Coordinate, plan and maintain a project forecast and capital list to inform budget decision making.
  • Preparation of tender documents and coordinating with Purchasing and Finance staff.
  • Liaise with City departments, stakeholders, councillors and members of the public to establish the program for the project.
  • Coordinate the work of consultants and contractors to meet the requirements of the project.
  • Liaise with Parks Operations, Planning and Building for site plan approval and building permits, Engineering for site services, IT and other departments with special needs, and with utilities, authorities and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Review reports, conceptual designs, drawings and tender documents and recommend changes.
  • Ensure that all safety and operational procedures are followed during work performance.
  • Conduct site inspections and oversee/prepare deficiency reports for appropriate action.
  • Responsible for payment certificates for the consultant, the contractor and other vendors.
  • Manage shop drawings, site instructions, change notices, change orders, and record drawings and manuals.
  • Oversee commissioning.
  • Ensure corporate project management software and best practices are effectively utilized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Requirements
  • Successful completion of a degree in Landscape Architecture, Engineering Sciences or closely related field. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Considerable experience managing multi‑phased projects related to parks or landscape design/construction, preferably in the public sector.
  • Ability to forecast budgets and future capital work, plan for and execute a variety of projects.
  • Ability to manage change in a project management capacity and complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Building Code, Construction Lien Act, CCDC 2, Bonding and Insurance, municipal by‑laws, proper construction procedures and other relevant standards, acts and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed drawings, specifications, soils reports and topographical surveys.
