Position: Registered Nurse - Interventional Psychiatry Services (Temporary Part Time)

What you’ll be doing:
Provide nursing care for patients receiving medical intervention of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Intravenous Ketamine therapy and/or Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)Prepare patient for treatmentSet up and maintain the rTMS and/or ECT and PACU suitesProvide post-anesthesia care which includes assessment, monitoring, and documentation as per PACU Policies & ProceduresContribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy and diversified patient populationsAssume Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned and direct the work of othersReceive patient assignments and follow care plans accordinglyAdminister psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatmentsPrepare and administer intravenous medicationsEnsure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times as required, eg. Mental Status ExamAct as a preceptor, mentor, coach or resource nurse as appropriateParticipate in clinical discussions, team meetings and patient/family conferencesProvide support to the medical clinic when requiredAccept changing work assignments across Homewood Specialized Services as needed and directed by supervisor and/or delegateWhat we’re looking for:
Licensed as an RN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standingBScN preferredCurrent knowledge and experience specific to emergency mental health and crisis intervention; 2 + years’ experience working with mood and anxiety patients is preferredTraining and experience with post-anesthesia care and recovery room techniques requiredKnowledge of ECT and/or rTMS as a Therapeutic InterventionTraining and experience with IV insertion and treatmentCPR/Basic RescuerStrong assessment and documentation skillsSkilled in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including PTSD, suicide prevention and the management of aggressive behaviourWorking knowledge of Mental Health Act and community mental health resourcesKnowledge of CNO documentation standards and PHIPPAProven excellence with communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of an innovative interdisciplinary teamAbility to prioritize and function effectively in a demanding and challenging environmentWillingness and ability to assume leadershipAs part of our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community from COVID-19, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Health Centre requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
