A “Grow Your Own” opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse who has an interest in a career within the Oncology Clinicbut does not possess the qualifications. Financial support will be available to the successful candidate with a return of service agreement.
Preference through this opportunity will be given to candidates who have completed or are currently enrolled in the Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course facilitated by the de Souza Institute.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Oncology Nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology and medical day care programincluding, but not limited to: patient/family assessment, administering & teaching chemotherapy/biotherapy,medical day care activities, providing supportive and palliative care, participation in thedevelopment &implementation of patient treatment plans, quality improvement processes, and facilitation of referralsand research activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standingBScN or related degreeCompletion of the de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course mandatoryCompletion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing course mandatoryCertificate in Oncology Nursing CON(C) an assetCurrent BCLS certification; ACLS preferredExperience with medical day care procedures including but not limited to paracentesis, thoracentesis, phlebotomy, IVIG, blood transfusionsExperience with intravenous insertion, PICC and Portacath accessCurrent experience in systemic chemotherapy administrationKnowledge & application of principles of oncology and palliative care nursingDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of patient assessment, patient-focused care, oncologic disease processes, needs of the oncology patient population, safe administration of chemotherapeutic agents, principles of adult learning, and therapeutic communication techniques.Demonstrated experience in working both independently and as part of inter-professional teamDemonstrated leadership abilitiesExcellent interpersonal & communication skillsComputer literacy; working knowledge of a variety of computer systems & software applicationsTime management skillsDemonstrated commitment to professional development, continuing education and clinicaltraining programsExemplary attendance recordSatisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start dateMust provide a Police Vulnerable Sector CheckMust complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hiredHOURS:
