Position Summary

The Clinical Extern Coordinator is a non-supervisory role to compliment the clinical supervision model. The Clinical Extern Coordinator will support education and development, provide mentorship and leadership, support, team integration, coordination and overall program implementation and evaluation. The Clinical Extern Coordinator role provides coordination and oversight of Nursing Student placement , including onboarding, compliance management, system access, stakeholder communication, and leaner record administration.

The position will report to the Director, Professional Practice.

Qualifications, Experience,

Skills and Abilities
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
  • Baccalaureate preparation in Nursing, Masters preparation is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years recent medical clinical experience with demonstrated clinical expertise
  • Experience teaching, working with learners and/or preceptoring preferred
  • Experience in clinical nursing training/education and group/meeting facilitation preferred
  • Experience as a Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and/or adult education certification
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills – written, oral and email
  • Proficient with computer software applications
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated change management, critical thinking and effective project management skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
