Food Microbiology Laboratory Assistant

Join the Agriculture and Food Laboratory team in Guelph as a Laboratory Assistant in Food Microbiology. This temporary full-time role focuses on food testing and sample preparation.

The Laboratory Assistant will support the Food Microbiology Section by preparing time-sensitive samples and aiding technicians in microbial analysis. Your work will involve critical tasks like pH measurement, moisture content analysis, and data entry in LIMS while ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards. This position requires attention to detail in maintaining safety and cleanliness within a dynamic lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare food and environmental samples for testing

• Assist with microbial detection and identification

• Analyze moisture content and pH of samples

• Ensure adherence to QA/QC and ISO 17025 standards

• Maintain lab supplies and cleanliness

Requirements:

• Two-year college program in relevant science

• Experience in ISO 17025 accredited labs

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and maintain lab safety

• Self-motivated in a fast-paced environment
