Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

We are seeking to appoint an organised, analytical and highly motivated individual to join our Student Events and Communities team as Student Engagement Assistant.

This exciting role will work alongside the Student Engagement Coordinator to support the delivery of Student Academic Partnership Forums, Welcome periods and a range of student feedback activities and projects. The primary focus of the role is on student-facing activity that enables students to share their experiences, strengthens partnership working and ensures student feedback informs decision-making and service improvement.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the planning and delivery of Student Academic Partnership Forums, working with academic colleagues, the Students’ Union and Course Representatives to coordinate logistics, communications and engagement.
  • Manage forum administration, including scheduling meetings, booking rooms, issuing calendar invitations and circulating reports and documentation.
  • Support the delivery and evaluation of student voice activities, including surveys and focus groups, analysing findings and producing clear reports that inform strategic priorities and service improvements.
  • Coordinate key engagement activities, including collecting and analysing Welcome feedback, producing annual reports, promoting the Course Representative scheme and maintaining the student voice repository.
  • Support communications relating to the Events and Communities team’s activities, working with Marketing and Communications colleagues to engage students effectively.
  • Provide wider support to the Events and Communities team and contribute to University activities such as Welcome, Open Days, ceremonies and corporate events.
About you
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver several activities within the same timeframe.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools to analyse feedback, attendance information and survey findings.
  • The ability to communicate findings clearly and turn student feedback into useful insights.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with empathy, care and patience while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team and building positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • A flexible, student‑centred approach and a commitment to improving the student experience.
  • Experience of working within higher education would be advantageous.

Please note that some evening and weekend work may be required. The successful candidate will also be expected to support University Welcome activities, and annual leave should not be taken between mid‑September and mid‑October.
