Position Overview- Responsible for planning and delivery of the academic program of EFL students

- 6 days per week (Monday to Saturday)

Essential
- UK passport / right to work in the UK and a valid DBS (England & Wales) or PVG (Scotland). If based outside the UK, provide a criminal record check from country of residence.
- Proven suitability to work with students under 18: at least 2 references.
- CELTA / Trinity CertTESOL qualification or a PGCE/QTS award related to YL/ESOL/English/Languages (or equivalent Ofqual recognised standards).
- Other TEFL Level 5 certificates or TEFL certificates with proven observed experience considered.
- Level 6 degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.
- Access
TEFL in progress (portfolio). - Experience of teaching EFL classes (including teaching practice).
Desirable
- DELTA / Trinity DipTESOL / MA TESOL completed or in progress.
- Master’s Degree in ELT/TESOL (or related subjects).
- EFL experience teaching teenagers.
- EFL summer school teaching experience in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS/PVG registered on the Update Service.
- First Aid Qualification.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
- Self‑motivated and passionate about teaching.
- Ability to organise classes, students and curriculum effectively.
- Ability to use and supplement programme curriculum to facilitate excursion‑based learning.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Polite, cooperative with fellow employees, group leaders, service providers and guests.
- Represent MLA values and model them to colleagues and students.
Residential contracts are based on up to 42 working hours over a 7‑day session with one day off per week. Expected coverage: up to 36 contact teaching hours, 6 hours of meetings, administrative duties and CPD sessions. Occasional extension of working hours may be required.
Key Position AccountabilitiesTeaching
- Prepare lessons with pre‑made plans and adapt to class composition.
- Liaise with co‑teachers.
- Teach EFL lessons at levels indicated by the Director of Studies.
- Inspire and motivate students to improve learning skills.
- Differentiate learning and scaffold for mixed‑ability classes.
- Provide varied teaching activities appropriate to student needs.
- Support use of the TASKtime book to achieve learning goals.
- Cover or assist teaching when necessary.
- Assist with speaking level testing if required.
- Co‑ordinate with the DoS/ADoS to implement the British Experience and integrate extra‑curricular activities.
- Leave classrooms secure, tidy and return equipment.
- Participate and contribute to weekly CPD sessions.
Administrative
- Complete attendance registers promptly and inform the DoS of any absences.
- Mark and record progress as instructed.
- Maintain up‑to‑date teaching records (lesson plans, work covered).
- Prepare professional student reports free of typos within agreed deadlines.
