An academically ambitious and values-led secondary school in Guildford is seeking to appoint an excellent Teacher of English from September 2026. The school achieves strong Progress 8 outcomes and GCSE results alongside a clear commitment to scholarship, inclusion and the wider development of every student.

The Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach at Key Stage 5. A Level teaching experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

The school is seeking a teacher who will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons

  • Foster a love of reading, writing and critical thinking

  • Develop students' analytical and communication skills

  • Use assessment effectively to secure strong progress

  • Contribute positively to a collaborative department

This role would suit experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers alike. Support is tailored according to experience, with a structured induction and mentoring programme for ECTs and personalised professional development pathways for more experienced colleagues.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in English Language and/or Literature

  • Have high expectations for achievement and behaviour

  • Build positive and consistent relationships with students

  • Be reflective and committed to ongoing professional development

  • Have the right to work in the UK
