Teaching Assistant – Guildford
Location: Guildford, Surrey Contract: Full-time or Part-time considered Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, term-time only Start Date: As soon as possible School Type: Primary (with some SEN needs across year groups).
About the RoleAs a Teaching Assistant, you will play a central role in supporting pupils’ learning, emotional wellbeing, and personal development. The role involves working both in the classroom and on a one-to-one or small-group basis with pupils who require additional support.
Daily responsibilities include:- Supporting pupils with their learning across all curriculum areas
- Working one-to-one with children who may have additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, SEMH needs, or academic delay
- Leading or assisting with small-group interventions (phonics, reading, math’s boosters, social skills groups)
- Helping to create a positive, calm and purposeful learning environment
- Supporting behaviour management using positive strategies
- Preparing resources, assisting with displays, and helping the class teacher with classroom organisation
- Supervising pupils during transitions, break, and lunchtime
- Recording observations, feeding back to teachers, and contributing to pupil progress discussions
We are seeking a candidate who is:
Essential qualities:- Passionate about supporting children’s development
- Patient, calm, and able to form strong, positive relationships with pupils
- A good communicator who can work effectively as part of a team
- Reliable, enthusiastic, and willing to learn new skills
- Able to follow instructions but also use initiative
- Confident with English and Maths (GCSE grade C/4 or above)
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- Knowledge of SEND (particularly ASD, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language)
- Experience with behaviour management strategies
- Familiarity with phonics programmes such as Little Wandle
- Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning plans
