SEND​/LLDD Teacher

Overview

SEND / LLDD Teacher at Merrist Wood College Lifeskills faculty. The programme supports learners who face barriers to education, including young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It focuses on highly sensory needs and a range of PMLD, operating from the Woodlands centre on the Merrist Wood campus and is highly personalised using the principles of RARPA.

This permanent, full-time role is based at Merrist Wood College.

• Lead a small team of Learning Support Assistants within the classroom, developing learning opportunities that broaden Skills for Life, work towards EHCP outcomes and engage with the wider community and the world of work.
• Teach subjects such as Maths and English, money management, personal safety, accessing the community, leisure activities, problem solving and working as a team.
• Provide structure and support for young people with highly complex health, communication and learning needs; plan for and deliver high-quality teaching for young people with highly sensory and profound needs.
• Demonstrate highly skilled and creative learning opportunities that are differentiated and align with RARPA.
• Evidence learner progress and outcomes and develop the curriculum area in line with latest government policy.
• Be open to undertaking training in a range of medical practices related to learners and work as part of the Lifeskills faculty.

• A PGCE or Level 5 equivalent Teaching qualification
• Previous experience in a PMLD setting as a tutor or teacher is preferred
• Strong knowledge of SEND with a broad subject background
• Ability to explain complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude
• Track record of achieving excellent teaching outcomes; ability to lead and develop the curriculum area in line with policy
• Evidence of learner progress and outcomes; DBS check at the appropriate level
