SEMH Support Assistant - Guildford, Surrey

Location: Guildford, Surrey Pay: £100-£115 per day Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term Start Date: September 2026

A welcoming SEN school in Guildford, Surrey is looking for a caring and resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join their team from September. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs, including behavioural, emotional, and social challenges.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support their wellbeing and development.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence building, and developing positive coping strategies.
• Assist students in accessing learning activities and engaging with the curriculum.
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to deliver personalised support.
• Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and independence.
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and wider school activities.
• Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
• Encourage pupils to develop social skills, resilience, and self-esteem.

• Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, ASD, ADHD, or challenging behaviour is beneficial.
• Patient, empathetic, and understanding of individual needs.
• Confident supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural challenges.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
• Reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to making a difference.
• Passionate about supporting children's wellbeing, development, and education.
