Lead R&D Engineer
This is a lead R&D Engineer role focused on early-stage concept development, system innovation, and proof-of-concept prototyping for next-generation optical and digital imaging systems.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future product strategy by transforming emerging technologies into validated system concepts that progress toward market-ready solutions. This role requires creativity, technical versatility, and a hands-on approach to prototype development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the creation of innovative concepts for next-generation optical and digital imaging systems.
- Drive system-level thinking to support group technology and product strategy.
- Design, build, and test mock-ups and breadboard prototypes to validate early-stage concepts.
- Conduct competitive analysis and technology benchmarking to inform innovation.
- Identify and integrate emerging technologies into future product roadmaps.
- Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external technology partners.
- Define and align technical specifications with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage concept development projects, tracking milestones, risks, and technical progress.
- Present findings, prototypes, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in optical engineering, physical sciences, electronic engineering, mechatronics, or optoelectronics.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in R&D or advanced engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of optical systems.
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, bread boarding, and proof-of-concept development.
- Experience in at least one of: image processing, metrology systems, or mechatronic systems.
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as CREO, Zemax, Mathcad, or equivalent.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Cross-disciplinary system integration experience.
- Knowledge of ergonomic design principles.
- Experience working with external technology partners.
- Structured project leadership experience in innovation environments.
- Creative, innovative, and commercially aware.
- Strategic and structured problem solver.
- Hands-on, technically curious, and self-motivated.
- Excellent communicator across disciplines and comfortable influencing senior stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
