We are looking for an Assistant Health & Safety Advisor to join the Health & Safety team within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) to support the work of the Health & Safety Advisor and Health & Safety Manager. The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences is a large Faculty encompassing four schools:
Engineering, Maths & Physics, Computer Science & Electronic Engineering and Chemistry & Chemical Engineering. The work of the Faculty covers a broad range of fascinating scientific and engineering disciplines which is set against a complex and evolving legal framework governing research, teaching, and health and safety.

The post holder will act as a point of contact for health and safety within the Faculty becoming familiar with the people and the hazards associated with the Facility's diverse range of activities. They will provide proactive, high quality and comprehensive support to the Faculty's Schools in order to achieve a positive culture and high standards of health and safety.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to develop their career in health and safety, particularly if they have experience in science or engineering roles where health and safety formed part of their duties. This post has the potential for development into a specialist area that may be applied University wide. Of particular interest would be candidates with experience or knowledge of working with lasers or other optical radiation sources.

The is a permanent full–time role based on the University of Surrey's Stag Hill campus.

You will primarily be reporting to the Faculty Health & Safety Advisor.

You will have:

• HNC, A level, NVQ 3, HND or equivalent qualification in engineering, science or other subject relevant to the Faculty, plus some relevant experience. Alternatively, you will have broad vocational experience within the field of engineering, science, research or health and safety, demonstrating development through the acquisition of appropriate specialist knowledge and involvement in a series of progressively more demanding/ relevant roles.
• NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or significant relevant health and safety experience in a lab–based or workshop–based environment.
• Membership of IOSH (Institute of Safety and Health) is also desirable, but not essential.
• Strong administration and communication skills.
