An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team at the Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting appointment and offers the chance to directly work in the Trust’s financial accounting function. Working closely with the head of financial accounting, the successful applicant will be involved in daily work of Trust's balance sheet reconciliation, capital accounting, charity accounting, VAT accounting, payroll and other interfaces, and month end and year end processes.
Main duties of the job- Production of statutory annual accounts and monthly returns to NHS England (NHSE)
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Capital accounting and reporting
- VAT review and returns
- Payroll, JAC, and other system interface associated work
- Provisions reporting in accordance with the Department of Health and regulators guidelines
- Charity accounting and reporting in accordance with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)
- Ensure a robust control environment is maintained in accordance with principles of sound financial governance, Standing Financial Instructions and standard operating procedures
The role will involve the expert analysis of complex financial information and the ability to concisely communicate the output of financial analysis to assist in financial decision making. The post holder will also be expected to update policies and procedures as necessary, and to help in shaping future service developments and driving process improvements. You will be required to contribute specialist technical accounting and business knowledge, strong analytical skills, and to be able to communicate complex finance issues whilst operating autonomously.

Job responsibilities- Work with the Head of Financial Accounting and other members of the financial service in ensuring all financial accounting processes are completed accurately and within the deadlines set out in the Finance Systems Timetable.
- Responsibility for the interfacing of financial information from external systems to the financial ledger, enabling monthly cost centre reports to be produced by Financial Management.
- Responsible for the reconciliation of highly complex balance sheet control accounts within specific deadlines.
- Support the Head of Financial Accounting and other members of the financial service in providing advice on all aspects of Financial Accounting.
- Work within fixed deadlines to enable monthly/annual returns to be completed on time.
- Contribute to the Trust's monthly and year end reporting processes, working autonomously and with minimal supervision.
