Aspiring Speech & Language Therapist

Aspiring Speech & Language Therapist – SEN School
Location: Guildford, Surrey (GU5)

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual to join a specialist SEN school as an Aspiring Speech & Language Therapist
. This role is suited to someone hoping to progress into Speech & Language Therapy and who wants practical, school-based experience supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and communication needs.

You will work alongside teachers and qualified Speech & Language Therapists to support pupils’ communication, interaction, and learning throughout the school day.

About the School

The school supports pupils aged 11–16 with a range of learning difficulties. Many students have speech, language and communication needs, Autism, sensory or physical needs, and may display behaviours that require consistent, calm support.

Who We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for graduates with a genuine interest in Speech & Language Therapy and SEND.

  • A degree in Psychology, Linguistics, Speech Sciences, or a related subject
  • A clear interest in training as a Speech & Language Therapist
  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs is helpful but not essential
  • Patient, reliable, and emotionally resilient
  • Able to commit to a full academic year
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support focused on communication and engagement
  • Help deliver speech and language strategies set by therapists and teachers
  • Support pupils with social communication and functional language
  • Assist pupils who use AAC or other communication supports
  • Provide pastoral support to build confidence and independence
  • Work closely with staff and parents to ensure consistent support
  • Follow behaviour and communication support plans
