About the Role
We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join the Molecular Diagnostics Department at the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust for a full-time, permanent position.
The Department is part of Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS). It is an ISO accredited service providing specialist molecular diagnostic services for BSPS departments, associated Trust clinicians and external laboratories in five health Trusts across the region. The department provides a variety of genetic services for the specific diagnosis of patients and to enable personalised, genetic‑based oncology treatments.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and oversee the processing of manual and automated PCR set‑ups.
- Prepare more complex assays such as sequencing and genetic signature analyses.
- Assist in the maintenance of the quality management system under the guidance of the departmental quality officer.
- Manage specific laboratory processes and be involved in training junior staff.
- Take responsibility for the release of certain patient results.
- State‑registered biomedical scientist, or expected to be registered in the coming months.
- Proactive in developing laboratory processes.
- Detail‑oriented and able to work well in a team environment.

We are clinically led and provide joined‑up care bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in homes across Guildford and Waverley.
