Surrey – the role will cover our clinics across Surrey, including Redhill, Oxted, Horley, Leatherhead, Epsom, Dorking, Ashford, Woking, East Molesey, Byfleet, Guildford, Haslemere and Cranleigh.
Salary: £24,784.50 rising upon completion of your diploma.
Diabetic eye screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes. The eye screening test can find eye problems before sight is affected. Pictures are taken of the back of the eyes to check for any changes. We appreciate that not many people know what the role of a screener is, but throughout your application process you will have a better understanding.
Responsibilities- Ensure patients feel welcome and comfortable throughout the screening process.
- Undertake the screening checklist to ensure the screening environment is safe for yourself and your patients.
- Basic maintenance of the camera and equipment to enable the best possible images.
- Safely administer eye drops (to enlarge pupils) and undertake photographs ensuring correct field of view.
- Identify any patients requiring urgent onward referral at the time of their appointment.
- Maintain a sufficient stock of consumables to run your clinic.
- Compassionate and empathetic towards patients.
- Good communication skills and customer‑service orientation.
- Ability to take detailed, close‑up photos of the eye and remain composed.
- Adaptable and able to think quickly to resolve problems.
- Flexible working week; occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Full driving licence and access to a car for travel to and from clinics.
- Commitment to completing the Health Screener Diploma within the required timescale.
- Experience in a caring environment or hospital background is preferable but not necessary.
