Band 4 Nursery Nurse Special Care Baby Unit
We are looking to recruit motivated, dedicated and caring band 4 Nursery Nurse with recent experience working in Special Care Baby Unit/ Transitional Care to join our friendly team. The specialist knowledge and experience you have gained will allow you to safely prioritise and manage care of up to 4 babies requiring special care, as per BAPM guideline. You will be supported at all times by the registered nurse on duty.
You will need to prove your genuine interest in caring for the neonates and their families requiring special care.
Or SCBU has 10 cots and we care for high dependency and special care babies of 32 weeks gestation and above. We have facilities to give short-term ventilatory support. We are also able to provide breathing assistance for 3-4 babies using Fabian Oxygen therapy and Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (NCPAP).
We pride ourselves in working together to provide family‑centred and family‑integrated care, having received our Baby Friendly status and Bliss Platinum accreditation. The candidate must be able to support the family unit whilst caring for the baby. We in turn will support you by providing a comprehensive induction programme in addition to the support from Practice Development Team and colleagues. If you are newly qualified, you will join the Trust Preceptorship Programme.

Main duties of the jobThe SCBU Nursery Nurse will work alongside the Neonatal Nurses and parents/carers in caring for neonates requiring Special Care on SCBU. The nursery nurse will participate in baby's oxygen saturation (sleep) studies, downloading and printing for review by nursing and medical staff. The Nursery Nurse will act as a Co‑mentor to new staff and junior colleagues on SCBU including those who are present in a Work shadow shift capacity.
The nursery nurse will support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.

Job responsibilities- Care for babies receiving nasal cannula oxygen, site nasal cannula and saturation probe. Develop and utilise good communication skills; elevate concerns using the SBAR process when appropriate.
- Insert naso/oro gastric tubes, tube feed infants and teach parents how to tube feed their baby independently. Understand the risks involved and how to minimise these. Be able to support parents, learning to be competent in tube feeding, in preparation for discharge.
