A part-time, opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated oncology dietitian with a desire to develop their skills to join our proactive team of 52 dietitians and dietetic assistants at The Royal Surrey Hospital.

We are looking for somebody with experience in oncology who has good rapport with patients and staff and takes pride in providing an efficient and effective dietetic service. Working alongside our team of specialist dietitians, you will have a very varied caseload and will work within several MDTs. You will be expected to provide high quality nutritional care to oncology inpatients and outpatients attending Royal Surrey Cancer Centre both in face-to-face and telephone clinics.

You will be involved in delivering education sessions to healthcare professionals and patients. As a Macmillan professional, you will also have access to support for learning and development from Macmillan Cancer Support.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the General Oncology dietetic team sharing responsibility for the smooth running of the service in line with Trust performance targets. They will provide dietetic support within an agreed caseload to individuals requiring treatment for general oncology cancers. This will include those patients under the care of the Surgical, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy teams. The delivery of this service can take place in outpatient clinics, at ward level and in the radiotherapy unit.

The post holder will have an active role in teaching other professionals, including students and patients, both as individuals and in groups. A considerate, patient focused service will be provided in all dealings with patients and with staff around the hospital and throughout the Cancer Network.

Job responsibilities

To provide dietetic support within an agreed caseload to individuals referred to the General Oncology team.

To provide nutrition and dietetic care for adult inpatients and outpatients by initiating, establishing and monitoring feeding care for patients, including interpretation of biochemical anthropometric data, and clinical condition.

To provide a resource of expert nutritional knowledge for other health professionals (including dietitians), across the Trust who refer to the General Oncology Team.

To work with other professionals to ensure best practice. This will include reviewing, updating and implementing nutrition and dietetic-related policies and procedures.

To review and update educational material for patient use, and for healthcare professionals
