The post holder will provide specialist professional advice on all aspects of health, safety and fire safety throughout the Trust.
The department is responsible for supporting in the systematic identification, recording and evaluation of risks arising from non-compliance with statutory legislation relating to the management of Health & Safety within the organisation and to minimise the exposure to those risks.
Working autonomously, the post holder will support the Trust in complying with statutory legislation, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), NHS guidance and Trust policies by undertaking inspections, audits, investigations, fire risk assessments and delivering training.
Within the department this will include the delivery of an effective and efficient enabling service capable of demonstrating high levels of compliance with health, safety, fire and environmental legislation. You will support the Health and Safety Team in providing an effective, professional H&S service across the Trust, working in both clinical and nonclinical settings.
You will support the Head of Health and Safety and Fire in all matters associated with health and safety management issues across all Trust workplaces and will be the day to day first point of contact for H&S matters at the Royal Surrey Hospital Foundation Trust and will work at all other Trust sites as the need arises. You will devise and deliver H&S-related training interventions, including Health and Safety risk assessments, fire risk assessments DSE workstation assessment, stress risk assessments, noise, and vibration awareness, etc.
Interpret current and any new Health, Safety and Security legislation and provide guidance throughout the organisation in supporting compliance.
Provide relevant training to meet legislated needs, and where applicable to provide advice in the production, management and monitoring of a Health, Safety and Security learning needs.
The post holder will promote a positive health and safety culture across clinical and non-clinical departments and support managers in reducing risk to patients, staff, visitors and contractors.
Job Duties:- The provision of health and safety policies and procedures to demonstration the Trust’s governance systems and process
- An advisory service to managers and staff
- A variety of training modules for all levels of staff
- Supporting safety representatives and collaborative working to support managers in carrying out their health and safety responsibilities
- Advising where needed on non-clinical incident investigations
- Advising the Trust Divisions regarding compliance with health and safety legislation and guidance and leading the Trust to achieve high Health and Safety compliance standards
- Undertake Fire Risk Assessments.
- Review existing Fire Risk Assessments
The post holder will be one of the competent Health and Safety persons for the Trust and will act in an advisory and supportive capacity to managers on Health and Safety legislation, the identification of workplace hazards, advising on effective control measures and assisting with the monitoring and review of any Health and Safety actions and/or risk assessments. This role will support the Head of Health & Safety, Fire and the Head of Estates in the delivery of a Trust-Wide Health and Safety Advisory Service.
