Job Summary

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a band 5 nurse to deliver our maternity vaccination programme and support smooth flow of patients using the outpatient's service within our CQC Outstanding maternity service.

You will join a diverse multi professional team that takes pride in teamwork and delivering truly individualised compassionate care. You will be responsible for delivering the maternal vaccination programme of Flu, Pertussis and RSV vaccines to pregnant women and ensuring all aspects of care relating to the administration, ordering and recording of vaccinations is undertaken. When not vaccinating, the job role will take on pre‑assessment, phlebotomy, updating blood results and supporting consultant clinics.

You must hold NMC nurse registration. You will be expected to be able to show evidence of current practice/updating. The post holder will have overall responsibility for delivery of maternal vaccinations at Royal Surrey and surrounding community hubs. They will ensure efficient and effective administration of the maternal Flu, Pertussis and RSV vaccination programmes. They will work closely with the Maternity Vaccination Fail Safe Officer to maintain oversight of vaccination appointments, ordering of and ensuring adequate stock levels of vaccines available, complete GP reporting for administered vaccines and monthly returns for vaccinations given.

They will be responsible for ensuring all those eligible for the vaccination programme are offered the relevant vaccine and support maternity staff to increase awareness of healthy pregnancy choices to maternity service users. They will deliver daily vaccination clinics to ensure coverage, capacity and timeliness of vaccination. Clinics will be run on both the main Royal Surrey site and in community hubs.

They will ensure all documentation with regards to vaccinations performed is accurate and support the vaccination failsafe officer to complete all GP and external provider reporting.

The postholder will support the midwifery team to provide efficient and seamless flow through midwifery and obstetric clinic. Support tasks include but not limited to; pre‑operative assessment care to women undergoing planned caesarean sections, phlebotomy and administrative tasks (blood and specimen results reviews, updating maternal clinical records).

  • 3. Be visible and accessible to service users and their families. Ensure all pregnant women/pregnant people have the opportunity to seek information, help and support regarding vaccination in pregnancy.
  • 4. Advocate for women/people in our care, empowering them to promote their own health and wellbeing.
  • 5. Commitment to providing non‑discriminating and non‑judgemental care that is culturally appropriate.
Clinical Duties
  • Competent in all aspects of immunisation including knowledge of contraindications to specific vaccines and the recognition and treatment of anaphylaxis.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure eligible service users are offered timely vaccinations in line with national guidance.
  • 3. Perform robust health assessment prior to vaccination, including but not exclusive to previous vaccination reactions and immunisation history.
  • 4. Have responsibility for the oversight of vaccination appointments. To ensure all vaccination clinic sessions are being utilised efficiently and effectively. Reduce loss of capacity by cancelling/rearranging appointments when necessary, ensuring all patients are seen with the recommended time frames.
  • 5. Have oversight of the ordering of and ensuring adequate stock levels of vaccines available. Liaising with pharmacy. Ensuring Vaccination Failsafe officer is aware of planned vaccinations or changes to vaccination campaigns that could impact supply.
