General Description

The University of Surrey invites applications for its PhD programme in Physics, offering an opportunity to undertake advanced research within a vibrant and internationally recognised academic environment. The programme is delivered through the Department of Physics, which is known for its strong emphasis on both fundamental and applied research across a range of specialisations.

Research areas within the programme include, but are not limited to, astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics, quantum physics, atomic and molecular physics, medical physics, radiation detection, and advanced materials. The PhD programme is designed to equip candidates with advanced research skills, critical thinking, and subject‑specific expertise. Eligibility Criteria
  • A minimum of a UK 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) in physics or a closely related discipline
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field is desirable
  • Strong academic background and readiness for independent research
Required Expertise/Skills
  • Solid foundation in core areas of physics relevant to the chosen research field
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to design and conduct independent research
  • Familiarity with computational or experimental techniques, depending on specialisation
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research environment
Salary Details
