The Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) aims to accelerate the exploitation of current or recently completed EPSRC, STFC, ESRC, and MRC funded research through increased engagement with key stakeholders and project partners. This demonstrates the impact of Surrey's research on society in the UK, both socially and economically.
Role OverviewWe are seeking 1–2 assistants (open to current PhD students in a scientific discipline) to help gather quantitative data and prepare case studies on the account’s funded projects.
These posts are 6 hours per week for up to 3 months, predominantly remote.
Compensation: £17.62 per hour
. £2.13 per hour holiday pay
. Start as soon as possible.
- Work through the list of completed projects funded through the account.
- Interact with and help Principal Investigators (PIs) to determine project outcomes such as training, further grant funding, new collaborations, commercialised IP and patents, or publications.
- Develop the stories behind each project to showcase impact, successes, and lessons learned.
- Provide feedback to the IAA report and produce media pieces for the website.
- Current PhD candidate in a scientific discipline.
- Proficient in professional communication over email and in person.
- Experience preparing reports and strong writing skills.
- Approachable, self‑motivated, and flexible.
- Excellent planning and organising skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
The opportunity will give the PGR IAA Officers insight into what makes a successful grant application, how projects are formulated, planned and executed, and how a research idea can have its impact maximised through commercialisation, industrial participation, and community outreach. You will also network with PIs from across the university to build your research network.
