At Certas Energy we’re keen to take a lead in the industry. We have a culture of strong safety and compliance principles, driven by our dedicated Safety F1rst and Doing the Right Thing (compliance) Initiative. Health and safety is paramount to our business ethos – it is fundamental to good business performance, and integral to long-term business success.

We have an exciting opportunity for a commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our Lubricants team.

Reporting to the Sales Manager, you'll be responsible for developing and growing a portfolio of Independent Workshop Sector (IWS) customers across the South East, with a key focus on driving sales of Castrol lubricants and value-added programmes.

This is a customer-facing, field-based role where you'll build long-term relationships, identify growth opportunities, win new business, maximise profitability and support customer retention through exceptional account management.

What you'll be doing
  • Managing and developing a portfolio of existing Independent Workshop customers.
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities within your designated territory.
  • Promoting and implementing Castrol branded programmes to drive customer growth, retention and loyalty.
  • Growing lubricant volumes through range selling, cross-selling and identifying additional value-added opportunities.
  • Delivering against sales, margin and retention targets.
  • Building strong commercial relationships with customers through regular face-to-face visits.
  • Preparing and presenting commercial proposals to new and existing customers.
  • Negotiating contract terms and renewals in line with company guidelines.
  • Monitoring account performance and implementing action plans to address risks and maximise profitability.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records, sales activity and pipeline information within company CRM systems.
  • Monitoring competitor activity and market trends, sharing insights with the wider business.
  • Working closely with internal teams including Commercial, Marketing, Transport, Customer Relations and Credit to deliver an excellent customer experience.
  • Managing customer debt exposure and supporting timely resolution of outstanding payments.
  • Ensuring all business activities are carried out in line with company policies, pricing frameworks, GDPR requirements and health & safety standards.
What we're looking for
  • Proven experience in a Business Development, Account Management or Field Sales role.
  • Strong commercial awareness with a track record of delivering profitable growth.
  • Excellent relationship-building and customer management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities and convert prospects into customers.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Full UK driving licence.
What you'll bring
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • The ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with colleagues across the business.
  • A customer-first mindset with a focus on delivering long-term value.
  • Resilience, drive and enthusiasm to achieve ambitious sales targets.

You’ll be joining a successful commercial team where you’ll have the opportunity to develop lasting customer partnerships, represent a globally recognised lubricant brand and play a key role in driving growth across the region.
