American Cruise Lines is seeking a shoreside Fleet Safety and Security Manager to work in our Guilford, CT office, supporting our growing cruise ship fleet sailing unique itineraries along rivers and coastal waterways of the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, Columbia‑Snake Rivers, Great Lakes, and Mississippi‑Ohio‑Cumberland Rivers. Our ideal candidate should be experienced in coastal/river ship operations, and Coast Guard safety and security regulations, fundamental data entry, demonstrate poised negotiation tactics, exhibit excellent intrapersonal skills, and have relationship‑building capacity.

Our candidate should be a meticulous and disciplined task manager, prioritizing and delivering a fast‑paced workflow. Our candidate must be a committed workplace role model working in teams and autonomously, always aligned with our company mission and values.

Reporting to the VP of Marine Operations, the Manager supervises a Safety Coordinator and Security Video System Technician. The Manager oversees a range of shipboard safety procedures and programs to prevent incidents and minimize risk. The Manager serves as Assistant Company Security Officer, overseeing vessel security plans, procedures, and audits, and travels regularly to supervise execution across the fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily fleet execution and documentation of shipboard safety and security programs.
  • Execute fleet security programs to regulatory and industry best practice standards.
  • Implement and update Vessel Security Plans, Vessel Declarations of Security, and onboard security procedures.
  • Implement and update risk reduction and incident prevention practices within vessel procedures.
  • Complete preliminary incident assessments in a timely manner, identifying key facts and potential causes of incidents.
  • Oversee and audit required incident reporting to regulatory agencies and fleet documentation of incidents.
  • Implement and track approved follow‑on actions, determined from incident assessments.
  • Chair cross‑department fleet safety group assessing fleet procedures, practices, incidents, and actions. Build teamwork across Marine, Engineering, and Hotel department managers.
Qualifications
  • Maritime experience in operations, logistics, dispatching, or maintenance support.
  • 100T Captain or Mate License (near coastal or inland) preferred.
  • Team‑building experience, poised communications and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven multi‑tasking and prioritization project execution skills.
  • Proven responsibility and discretion in handling sensitive personnel and security information.
Work Location, Routine Hours and Travel
  • Experience as shipboard Deck and/or Engineer Officer.
  • Experience executing and/or supervising shipboard security and safety programs.
  • Desired Coast Guard experience executing and/or managing security and safety programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite programs, documents, and calendars.
  • Poised communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent intrapersonal and professional relationship‑building skills.
  • Proven multi‑tasking and prioritization project execution skills.
Work Environment
  • Daily in‑person work at our Guilford, CT, office.
  • Periodic travel (7‑10 days monthly) to company ships around the country and periodic regulatory meetings.
  • Professional fast‑paced environment with a demanding time schedule.
