About the Role
An established and fast-growing structural steel contractor delivering turnkey engineering projects across the UK is seeking an experienced Project / Design Engineer to join its team.
The business provides a fully integrated service covering design, detailing, fabrication, and installation. Steelwork is supplied to a wide range of sectors including airports, recycling facilities, power stations, hospitals, and major petrochemical plants.
This is a key role within the organisation, working closely with the drawing office and engineering teams to manage the flow of technical information between clients, subcontractors, and internal departments. A strong understanding of structural steelwork, including both 3D models and detailed drawings, is essential.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience within structural steel construction and fabrication is required.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage projects from award through to final handover
* Coordinate design, production, and installation activities
* Interpret project scope, specifications, and technical requirements
* Act as the primary technical contact for clients and site teams
* Liaise with client representatives, engineers, draughts people, and subcontractors
* Collaborate with internal teams including buying, workshop, site management, and commercial departments
* Manage site teams and subcontractors where required
* Monitor programme delivery and ensure materials and fixings are prepared in line with schedule
* Identify and resolve day-to-day project issues
* Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations
* Coordinate documentation including RAMS and Early Warning Notices
Skills & Experience Required
* Excellent ability to read and interpret structural drawings, connection details, and specifications
* Strong knowledge of structural steelwork and construction processes
* Proven experience managing construction project budgets
* Leadership experience with demonstrable team management skills
* Ability to produce and manage project programmes
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
* Positive, solutions-focused approach
* Proficient in MS Office and MS Project
* Extensive knowledge of construction materials and equipment
* SMSTS qualification preferred
