Under general supervision assists with the review of City and private civil construction plans and performs construction inspections to ensure adherence to the approved plans, Subdivision Regulations, ADEM Best Management Practices and Land Development Ordinances of the City and to ensure compliance with minimum construction standards. Inspects City projects and work activities to monitor progress and ensure compliance with the approved plans, established standards;
advises field crews in techniques and practices; reviews reports; reviews and approves requests for materials and supplies. Inspects private developments during and after construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and City regulations. Assists in the review of Civil construction plans to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Receives and responds to complaints, concerns, or problems; provides resolution to situation. Inspects City/State/County roadway, pedestrian, lighting and drainage infrastructure within our corporate limits to identify areas in need of maintenance and/or repairs. Works with Public Works Director to develop capital projects to address infrastructure needs. Performs technical tasks to enforce the Subdivision Regulations, ADEM Best Management Practices and Land Development Ordinances of the City and to ensure compliance with minimum construction standards.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Reports violations to Public Works Director; completes inspection reports.
Associates Degree in Construction Management; or closely related field, with Five years of construction or construction management experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications- ALDOT Certified Inspector or equivalent certifications preferred
- Conducts field inspections and on occasion assists Building Official to provide guidance on difficult or unusual problems; conducts routine inspections of City projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
- Assists in reviewing subdivision construction plans, site plans, and other land development applications for compliance with the drainage ordinance and construction standards.
- Patrols assigned areas on foot or by vehicle.
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, documents, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, documents, or other documents. Makes court appearances to provide witness testimony as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
