Customer Service Rep, Recreation & Leisure
Summary
This position is located at the Outdoor Recreation, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department – NCBC Gulfport Liberty Program. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties in support of MWR special events, community events, outings, parties and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, Liberty, leisure skill classes and outdoor recreation or other similar MWR recreational services, including bowling, movies, fitness and sports.
Duties & Responsibilities- Performs assigned duties and provides necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information and support of recreation and fitness programs.
- Provides information concerning facilities and operation.
- Ensures adherence to regulations, safety and security procedures.
- Assists in maintaining routine reports, performs clerical, custodial and general maintenance duties.
- Performs numerous functions in support of recreation and fitness program delivery, including inventory control, equipment inspection, restocking, point‑of‑sale system operation and cash handling.
- Operates a cash register and POS system, processes product or service transactions—including equipment loan, rentals, resale, and program registration; receives payments and makes change.
- Greets patrons, answers the telephone, takes messages, handles customer requests, and makes referrals to the appropriate staff member.
- Adheres to NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements.
- Provides support for recreation event set‑up and breakdown.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Meet Federal employment suitability requirements and have a successful background investigation.
- Pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Complete a PIV process requiring two forms of identification from the Form I‑9.
- Hold a valid state driver’s license (if required for motor vehicle operation).
- Receive salary via direct deposit / electronic funds transfer.
- Register with Selective Service (for males born after 12/31/1959).
- Stand for periods, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Hold C.A.R.E. training and an Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification and a current Food Handler certification – or obtain these within 90 days.
- Work at multiple community recreation facilities in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Be available to work varying schedules, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Applicants must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which they are being considered. Information should be clear and specific. All non‑government positions must include complete address and dates; government positions must include pay plan, series, grade, dates, and agency address.
- General experience of 0‑3 months and/or a high school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
- Knowledge of the MWR department to answer customer questions and refer customers appropriately.
- Keyboarding skills, including operation of POS systems and desktop computers.
- Basic computer operation skills.
- Reading and comprehension of published rules, regulations, SOPs, checklists, and guides.
- Basic custodial tasks (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, dusting, etc.).
- Basic arithmetic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to identify customer needs, deliver expected service, and resolve routine customer issues.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- Selected candidates must be suitable for federal employment.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Participation in the direct deposit pay program is required.
- Social Security Card is required.
- Completion of an employment verification (E‑VERIFY) is required.
