Job Description

The Tax Experienced Associate, Core Tax Services is responsible for utilizing their educational background as well as communication and organizational skills by assisting with the preparation of tax returns and research. In this role, the Tax Experienced Associate will be charged with utilizing basic research skills and working with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.

Job Duties Tax Compliance
  • Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
  • Applies understanding of client’s unique circumstances, documentation, and legal requirements to prepare filings (tax returns) with a review process to ensure client compliance while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected and communicates missing items to prepare the return.
  • Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
  • Collaborates with a Senior on project completion (follow-up on open items).
  • Documents all significant tax positions.
ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
  • Applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
  • Assists with preparation and/or review of income tax provisions.
Tax Consulting
  • Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, particularly by reducing current and future taxes.
  • Applies knowledge of home state corporate, partnership, and individual tax structure and filing requirements in completing assigned work.
  • Drafts clear and concise general memorandums and correspondence.
  • Identifies potentially relevant tax issues or opportunities as part of the tax compliance process.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics OR Bachelor's degree in another focus area and CPA certification required (or authorization to test for the CPA exam, or equivalent documentation, prior to start date in your state of employment).
  • Master’s in accountancy or taxation preferred.
Experience
  • One (1) year or more of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience preferred.
License/Certifications
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred.
Software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software (preferred).
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to follow instructions from Tax Team members.
  • Able to prepare simple tax returns.
  • Takes appropriate actions without being asked.
  • Seeks advice from appropriate superiors regarding issues related to compliance.

Individual salaries offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Salary ranges by location may include:
California $80,000 - $88,000;
Colorado $71,500 - $72,000;
Illinois $74,000 - $80,000;
Maryland $85,500 - $88,000;
Massachusetts $86,500 - $89,000;
Minnesota $72,000 - $78,000;
New Jersey $77,000 - $92,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester $93,000 - $95,000;
Washington $71,400 - $83,400;
Washington DC $86,000 - $90,000.
