Cost Accounting Manager – Construction | $115K–$150K + Path to CFO

Service Specialists is recruiting on behalf of a leading construction organization seeking an experienced Cost Accounting Manager to oversee project-based financial operations and provide executive-level reporting and analysis. This is a newly created role offering direct visibility to the executive leadership team, including the Vice President and CFO. The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, a background in public accounting for large-scale organizations, and a proven ability to deliver precise and actionable financial insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for executive leadership and the corporate finance team.
  • Lead annual budgeting efforts and provide ongoing budget vs. actual analysis.
  • Serve as a liaison between project teams and finance, ensuring financial accuracy across all active construction projects.
  • Facilitate project status meetings and provide actionable financial analysis to improve performance.
  • Conduct job cost analysis, comparing actual costs to estimates and identifying budget variances.
  • Review subcontractor and owner change orders, ensuring alignment and reconciliation.
  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and training to project accounting staff.
  • Support internal and external audit processes and coordinate tax-related documentation.
  • Deliver ad hoc reporting and financial research as needed by leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting and/or construction industry accounting.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and job cost analysis.
  • Experience with large-scale or multi-project construction environments highly desired.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.
  • Leadership experience and a desire to grow into a CFO-level role.

Salary Range: $115,000 – $150,000 + excellent benefits
