Position SummaryJoin the HIM team as a HIM Coder/Technician and support the medical records department through a variety of coding, clerical, technical, and related support services. Responsible for coding, assembly, and analysis of discharge medical records, reviewing records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations, coding using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPC guidelines, maintaining filing of all loose medical records, assisting with Release of Information, and operating health records indexes and storage retrieval systems.
Ability to multitask and be well organized. The position will be on‑site in the hospital Monday‑Friday.
- Code, assemble, and analyze discharge medical records.
- Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Code using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPC guidelines.
- Maintain filing and indexing of medical records.
- Assist with Release of Information and retrieval of paper medical records.
- Perform related clerical and technical support services.
- High school diploma or GED;
Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required. - Two years post‑high‑school education or equivalent experience in medical records preferred. New graduate eligible.
- Previous experience in coding ICD-10‑CM/PCS‑CM, CPT and HCPCS, preferably in a psychiatric facility.
- Must pass a coding test at 85% or better.
