This is a compliance production role supporting year-end accounting work for New Zealand accounting practices. Working within a structured offshore team, you will prepare work papers, financial statements, and income tax returns under the guidance of senior accountants. The work is detail-intensive and deadline-driven, and offers strong technical development for candidates who are committed to building their skills in NZ and AU accounting.
Key Responsibilities
• Preparing and maintaining work papers and supporting schedules
• Assisting with annual financial statements for companies, trusts, and individuals
• Preparing income tax returns (NZ IR4, IR6, IR3 or equivalent AU forms)
• Reviewing and classifying general ledger transactions accurately
• Preparing fixed asset registers and depreciation calculations
• Identifying variances and discrepancies and escalating clearly to senior accountants
• Communicating queries and review points clearly to team members
Essential Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
• Working knowledge of accounting software Xero and/or CCH preferred
• Solid Excel skills: able to use formulas, format accurately, and maintain clean work papers
• Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to accuracy
• Clear written English communication skills
Personal Qualities We Value
We are looking for candidates who take ownership of their work and are motivated to develop their technical skills. Specifically, we value:
• A proactive approach to learning — you seek to understand the reasoning behind processes, not just follow steps
• Intellectual honesty — you raise questions and flag errors rather than making assumptions
• A careful, self-reviewing approach to your own work before passing it on
• Openness to feedback and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement
• Reliability — you follow through on commitments and communicate early when something changes
What to Expect
You will work within a structured, quality-focused team with clear processes and strong support from senior accountants. You will be given real compliance work from an early stage, with regular feedback and genuine opportunities to develop your technical capability over time.
