Role Overview

We are seeking a Cyber Security Engineer with a strong focus on system monitoring, logging, and detection engineering. Securing our internal systems and pipelines is critical to our success. In this role, you will own the visibility and security monitoring of our infrastructure, ensuring robust attribution, hardened Access Control Lists (ACLs), and real-time detection of anomalous or unauthorised behaviour.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

- Design, standardise, and maintain consistent security configurations across systems to eliminate drift between machine setups and scripts.
- Implement comprehensive, shell-agnostic command and activity logging to ensure all user actions are captured regardless of shell or execution context, with minimal performance impact.
- Lead incident response efforts, including forensic investigations, root-cause analysis, and remediation.
- Create, maintain, and enforce security policies, strict ACLs, and best practices for code, infrastructure, and machine access routes.
- Partner with engineering, Dev Ops, and Network teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
- Build centralised log collection pipelines (SIEM) aggregating access, command, and system logs across machines while developing anomaly detection logic to flag malicious behaviour.
- Automate detection of leaked credentials and other secrets, as well as alerting and reporting workflows for security events.

Eligibility and Required Technical Skills

- 3-5 years of experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, or systems security roles.
- Bachelor's or Master’s in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related discipline from a top-tier university.
- Deep expertise in Linux systems administration, permissions, sudo, PAM, SSH, and authentication flows.
- Strong experience with command logging, audit frameworks, and log aggregation pipelines.
- Hands-on knowledge of shell environments (bash, zsh) and common logging bypass techniques.
- Familiarity with SIEMs and log analysis platforms (e.g., ELK, Splunk, or similar).
- Experience designing alerts and detections for privilege escalation, credential leakage, and anomalous access.
- Scripting and automation skills in Bash and Python for enforcement and validation.
- Understanding of zero-trust access models and certificate-based authentication (Banyan experience is a plus).
