R&D Data & Systems Integration Consultant

We are seeking an experienced R&D Data & System Integration Consultant (full‑time (40‑hrs per week Mon‑Fri, 12‑month, 1099 contract position) to lead and support the integration of multiple R&D systems as part of a major organizational transformation.

This role will focus on harmonizing data structures, mapping legacy systems to new platforms, and integrating specification management systems into a unified R&D environment.

You will play a key role in defining integration strategies, designing scalable data pipelines, and transforming complex datasets into actionable insights through analytics and dashboards.

This position is ideal for a hands‑on professional who can work on a full‑time, 1099 contract basis, and combines strong data engineering expertise, system integration acumen, and experience managing enterprise R&D tools as a system business owner.

Key Responsibilities Include the Following:

System Integration & Data Consolidation
  • Lead the integration and harmonization of R&D systems (e.g., Specright, etc.) to create a unified data ecosystem.
  • Perform detailed data mapping between legacy and target systems, ensuring alignment of structures, semantics, and governance standards.
  • Partner with R&D, Master Data, IT, and business stakeholders to define integration architecture, workflows, and interface requirements.
  • Oversee the migration and validation of data, ensuring consistency, completeness, and traceability across systems.
  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI and/or Tableau to track integration progress, data quality, and key R&D performance metrics.
  • Translate technical and operational data into actionable business insights for R&D leadership and cross‑functional teams.
Governance, Documentation & Business Ownership
  • Act as a system business owner or subject matter expert for key R&D platforms—helping shape governance, user requirements, and roadmap priorities.
  • Document data mappings, transformation logic, and system relationships in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Support training, communication, and adoption for new and merged system environments.

Qualifications Include the Following:

Education
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Background or experience in R&D, product development, or scientific data environments preferred.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, system integration, or data migration within R&D or manufacturing contexts.
  • Proven experience in data mapping and system harmonization across multiple enterprise platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience with Specright or other specification management systems is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience serving as a system business owner or functional lead for an enterprise platform preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Talend, or similar).
  • Expertise in Power BI and/or Tableau for data visualization and reporting.
  • Understanding of API integrations, data modeling, and cloud‑based architectures (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with metadata management, data governance frameworks, and master data concepts.
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to bridge technical and business domains.
  • Strong analytical mindset and problem‑solving ability in complex data landscapes.
  • Comfortable leading discussions with technical teams, vendors, and business leaders alike.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and experienced in change‑driven, fast‑paced environments.
