Responsibilities
  • Perform all food preparation and cooking functions, maintaining quality standards.
  • Prepare food accurately following production sheets and standardized recipes.
  • Control all established procedures and state requirements regarding safe food handling, storage, and service.
  • Maintain strict sanitation standards, including hand washing, glove use, and sanitizing food contact surfaces and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain food temperatures at all times.
  • Wrap, date, and label all food items in storage.
  • Adhere to FIFO practices.
  • Operate cooking equipment following established procedures and safety precautions.
  • Monitor and control quantities of foods prepared; record leftovers and waste.
  • Inform the Production Supervisor/Chef of any problems relating to production areas, equipment, or food items.
  • Set up and break down food serving lines efficiently and timely.
  • Maintain HACCP logs and procedures; ensure compliance with safety storage and food‑safety regulations.
  • Complete all assignments on daily production sheets and assist co‑workers as needed.
  • Participate in cleaning assignments, overall sanitation, and housekeeping duties in production areas.
  • Engage in hospital and departmental programs for staff development and quality improvement.
  • Perform work mostly alone but also as part of a team; establish and maintain effective relationships with all coworkers.
  • Provide cooperation in other tasks or duties when assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent program.
  • Minimum of one year of short‑order cooking experience in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Formal culinary training within the last five years.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Formal culinary training.
  • Health facilities cooking experience or healthcare nutrition knowledge.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Food Safety and Sanitation Certification within one year.
Compensation

Minimum hourly rate: $21.40. The posted rate is a reasonable good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market‑competitive total rewards package.

Job Duties & Compensation Variability

The base compensation at the time of offer may differ from the posted rate based on market data, experience, education, certifications, skill level, geographic location, internal equity, and department budget. Some positions may also be eligible for performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions, as well as shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend work.
