Job Title: Nurse Practitioner

Part-Time: 16–24 hours per week

Job Summary

The nurse practitioner will be responsible for providing regularly scheduled adult primary and preventive patient care, urgent care services and comprehensive education for patients with diabetes.

Job Duties
  • For regularly scheduled patients, performs complete history and physical exams, orders diagnostic tests, and prescribes appropriate treatment, consulting with the Medical Director as needed.
  • Provides coverage on the phone or in person for health center patients that require urgent care, including initial assessment, treatment, and triage.
  • Respond to phone calls from established health center patients seeking advice or medication refills.
  • Serve as backup in case of absence of the Nurse Manager; including oversight of patient flow and direct nurses during the clinical sessions.
  • Assist in the tracking of patient care follow up.
  • Work with the medical staff to implement quality assurance protocols.
  • Assist in the development of programs to enhance patient care.
  • Perform chart review of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Become proficient with BVMI’s EMR system, and act as a resource to other practitioners, as needed.
  • Perform subject to BVMI Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Employment Standards
    • Must maintain an Advanced Practice Nursing license in the State of New Jersey
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in a multi‑physician or hospital‑based primary care practice.
    • Bi‑lingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
    • Experience in diabetes care preferred but not required (Comprehensive on‑the‑job training and support will be provided).

    Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with professional medical staff and volunteers; knowledge of electronic medical records. Commitment to the goals of the BVMI Healthcare Center, specifically the “Culture of Caring.”
