Overview

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) role at Zufall Health. Under the direct supervision of the Site Manager and PCMH Care Coordinator, the CMA assists patients and families in all aspects of clinical interaction, ensuring optimal health outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and families cordially at every visit; escort patients to checkout and address concerns.
  • Assist providers in patient care: gather reason for visit, medical history, social history, family history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and other information; enter data accurately into the electronic medical record.
  • Identify and document recent healthcare encounters, new medications, and recent hospitalizations; obtain discharge summaries via the hospital interface.
  • Participate in Care Team meetings (huddles) to prepare for patient visits and anticipate needs.
  • Provide translation services or arrange language line when needed.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Remain present for pelvic, breast, genital, and rectal examinations; stay in the exam room for other evaluations unless indicated otherwise.
  • Inform provider when the patient is ready and review clinical information to expedite the visit; keep the exam room doors closed while the patient waits.
  • Assist in the educational process during and after visits: translate instructions, review materials, answer questions, and ensure patient understanding.
  • Ensure patients understand instructions and obtain a follow‑up appointment when indicated.
  • Participate in collaborative initiatives and PDSA cycles as directed by PCMH leadership.
Specific Duties
  • Obtain vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, pain scale) for every visit unless exempted; ensure correct entry and calculations for BMI and other growth metrics.
  • Use a second‑hand watch and stethoscope during duties.
  • Repeat blood pressure reading if an elevated measurement is initially obtained.
  • Follow standing orders for chronic conditions and other established protocols.
  • Obtain finger‑stick samples for glucose, hemoglobin, A1C, rapid HIV test, and urine specimens as per provider orders.
  • Report test results to the provider, chart controls, and enter results in the EHR.
  • Complete required in‑house competencies per CLIS and state regulations.
  • Assist providers in determining billability and referral eligibility for subspecialists.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, dispose of specimens properly, and keep equipment sanitized.
  • Enter prescription, over‑the‑counter, and supplemental medications into the EHR with appropriate details.
  • Assist in vaccine administration and lab result management.
  • Document medication dispensing and vaccine administration accurately.
  • Assist with paperwork: insurance referrals, work or school notes, and other documentation.
  • Maintain supply inventory and inform PCMH of needed items.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned by PCMH, Site Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in annual competencies covering translation, vital signs, TB skin tests, waived POC labs, infection prevention, sterilization, OSHA, immunization administration, standing orders, and other relevant areas.
Additional Duties – CMA I with EKG Certification
  • All duties listed above.
  • Perform EKGs when ordered, ensuring correct technique and documentation; maintain privacy and proper communication with providers.
Additional Duties – CMA I with Phlebotomy Certification
  • All duties listed above.
  • Perform phlebotomy per provider orders using aseptic technique; verify patient identity prior to draw.
Additional Duties – CMA II
  • All duties listed above, including those for CMA I with EKG and Phlebotomy certifications.
Requirements
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current certification for EKG, Phlebotomy, and BLS.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a clinical/medical setting, or at least 120 hours of externship experience.

Description:

$19.00–$24.34 per hour
