About the Role
London Borough of Hackney is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Fire Safety Business Support Officer to join the Resident Safety division. In this role, you will provide critical administrative, financial, and technical support to the Fire Safety Team, ensuring the council maintains high compliance and building safety standards across its housing portfolio.
You will work closely with managers, technical assessors, and external stakeholders, helping drive operational efficiency, maintain compliance databases, and manage resident engagement regarding fire safety matters.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative & Project Support:
Maintain and update fire risk assessment databases. Coordinate appointments for Fire Risk Assessors and Health & Safety Advisors. Assist in arranging EWS1 forms, PAS 9980 assessments, and Section 20 notices.
Compliance & Reporting:
Monitor fire safety work orders, track the completion of fire door inspections and fire risk assessment recommendations, and compile monthly compliance reports.
Financial & Procurement Administration:
Process purchase orders, review cost quotations for safety works, manage compensation claims, and assist with budget monitoring.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement:
Respond to FOI requests, complaints, and Member inquiries. Communicate effectively with tenants, leaseholders, contractors, and council departments.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications & Memberships
NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
CIH Membership (Chartered Institute of Housing) or working towards it.
Additional training in fire safety compliance is desirable.
Experience & Knowledge
Proven background in administrative or business support, ideally within social housing or fire safety environments.
Familiarity with fire safety regulations, health & safety legislation, and Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) is an advantage.
Solid understanding of procurement processes, raising purchase orders, and financial administration.
Strong IT skills with experience managing compliance databases and Microsoft Office.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High level of empathy when dealing with resident concerns.
Flexibility for occasional site visits or evening meetings (a full UK driving licence and vehicle access is desirable).
