Overview

Join us as an Echocardiographer – Per Diem at Hackensack Meridian Health.

The Echocardiographer performs cardiac ultrasound procedures and assists trained, credentialed cardiology attendings during stress echocardiogram and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) procedures. The position requires complete knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

Responsibilities
  • Performs echocardiograms including 2‑D, 3‑D when applicable, strain, M‑Mode, color flow imaging, and Doppler studies.
  • Recognizes need for contrast imaging enhancement and administers as per protocol.
  • Responsible for preliminary measurement and documentation within the Cardiovascular Information Systems for physician interpretation; escalates critical findings to ordering physicians and cardiologists.
  • Obtains patient history and performs procedures as ordered.
  • Helps patients onto and off of bed.
  • Notifies supervisor in cases of acute or life‑threatening abnormalities.
  • Obtains digital acquisition and storage of echo study in Cardiovascular Information Systems.
  • Transports equipment to the patient’s room for bedside studies, as needed.
  • Calibrates, cleans, and maintains equipment and reports breakdowns and supply needs.
  • Follows special procedure policies regarding probe maintenance and sterile processing (e.g., TEE).
  • Completes EPIC workflow and processes billing charge requisition, log books, worksheets, and reports as applicable.
  • Cleans and prepares room for the next patient.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care to be specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing/visual impairment). Communicates with patients, parents, and/or caregivers at appropriate levels.
  • Adheres to the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) and the organization’s competencies.
  • Participates in performance initiatives and monitoring.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned and participates in projects as directed.
  • Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications – Required
  • Graduate of a certified cardiovascular technology school or an accredited ultrasonography program with a specialty in cardiac sonography.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • One‑year clinical echocardiography experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification or Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certification or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification.
  • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Working Conditions

Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a maximum of 375 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
