Overview

The CNA/GNA Adjunct Instructor provides classroom, lab, and clinical instruction for students enrolled in the Maryland Board of Nursing–approved Nursing Assistant Training Program. The instructor ensures that all teaching and evaluation activities meet MBON standards, prepares students for CNA certification and GNA examination eligibility, and fosters a supportive learning environment that promotes student success in both academic and clinical settings.

Organizational Relationships

Reports directly to the Allied Health Program Manager within Workforce Solutions & Continuing Education. Collaborates with other CNA/GNA faculty, clinical site staff, and program coordinators to ensure compliance with MBON regulations and program outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in classroom, lab, and clinical settings consistent with the MBON-approved CNA/GNA curriculum
  • Teach core competencies such as infection control, safety, mobility, elimination, hygiene, communication, legal/ethical considerations, and activities of daily living
  • Supervise students in clinical settings, ensuring safe practice and adherence to professional standards
  • Evaluate student performance using a variety of assessment tools and provide timely feedback
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and clinical evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with MBON regulations, program policies, and clinical agency requirements
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and program evaluation activities
  • Support program operations by ensuring proper use of lab equipment and supplies
  • Support students in preparing for CNA certification and GNA examination eligibility
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience

Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Maryland (or compact state with multistate privilege). Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in long-term care facility providing direct patient care. Documented teaching experience or completion of a Board-approved “Train the Trainer” course for CNA/GNA instructors. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Compliance

Note:

The Maryland Board of Nursing requires that all CNA/GNA training programs and instructors be approved by the board before teaching. Faculty must meet the qualifications outlined in COMAR 10.27.02 and MBON’s CNA Training Program Resource Packet.

Working Environment

This position will work to oversee the CNA/GNA program on the Hagerstown Community College campus and will also include classroom, lab, and clinical instruction. This position will also require the applicant to hold office hours to meet with students, staff, and administration. The individual will be required to participate in HCC events and training. Working hours will vary depending on course offerings.
