Cost Accounting Manager
Our Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for our cultivation and manufacturing P&Ls, including all cost accounting entries, ensuring financial records are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This individual will supervise one (1) Plant Controller who oversees our Washington D.C. locations. The Cost Accounting Manager will partner with the general managers of the facilities to prepare and report on monthly cultivation and processing performance, including analyzing and explaining manufacturing variances and associated spend variances.
Your role in caring for our company:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee all financial aspects of the Maryland cultivation and manufacturing facilities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Supervise the D.C. Plant Controller, ensuring financial accuracy and completeness for the D.C. cultivation and manufacturing facilities.
- Manage and analyze product costing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in cost allocation.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams to optimize cost structures and identify areas for cost reduction.
- Prepare and present timely and accurate financial statements and reports to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct regular variance analysis to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted performance.
- Provide insights and recommendations for improving operational efficiency and financial performance.
- Oversee inventory accounting processes, ensuring accurate valuation and reconciliation.
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize inventory levels.
- Participate in the development of annual budgets and forecasts for the facility.
- Work closely with department heads to align financial plans with operational goals.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Analyze production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead, to ensure accurate cost allocation.
- Develop and maintain standard cost models for products/services.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date cost data.
- Perform regular variance analysis to compare actual costs to standard costs and investigate discrepancies.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost control and optimize operational processes.
- Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, and cycle counting.
- Collaborate with production teams to monitor and control inventory levels.
- Prepare accurate and timely cost reports for management.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the facility's assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting the cannabis and manufacturing industry.
Team Leadership & Performance Analytics
- Collaborate effectively with the Human Resources Department and appropriate partners to implement and manage the company's policies and procedures.
- Partner with the Human Resources Department to monitor staff performance, provide timely feedback, along with development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance evaluations.
- Retain and develop top performers by understanding individual's motivations and providing actionable feedback.
- Addresses low performance quickly, compassionately, and in alignment with company policies.
- Manage employee's scheduling, basic time off requests, performance reviews, etc.
All other duties as necessary.
Qualifications we ask you to have:
- For legal reasons, all employees need to be at least 21 years of age.
- You will be asked to pass a Federal and State criminal history background check.
- We ask that you have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting Finance, or related field.
- We prefer a CPA or CMA certification.
- We ask that you have a minimum of six (6) years of extensive experience with cost accounting, standard costing, inventory accounting, and other associated areas.
- We ask that you are proficient in ERP systems and financial software.
- We ask that you have in-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
- We ask that you have excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve, personal integrity, and business acumen.
