Summary — The Medical Laboratory Technician, ASCP performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position performs functional duties in the Pre‑Analytic, Analytic, and Post‑Analytic phases in the Laboratory Path of Work flow. May be required to share responsibility to delegate work assignments for self and coworkers in the absence of a supervisor or lead.
Must comply with the CLIA standards, listed as responsibilities under 42

493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42
CFR
493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel.
Associate’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program which is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or Associate’s degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry and equivalent training, education, and experience (such as military training).
ExperienceSix months full time clinical laboratory experience required. The clinical laboratory experience gained during the accrediated Medical Technology program will satisfy the experience requirement.
Licensure/CertificationASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MLT certification or equivalent categorical certification required.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesWorking knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers. Basic computer skills required.
