Position Summary (A Day in the Life)

This person will perform job duties with direction from the Production Manager and Shift Supervisor.

Observes and/or performs the handling of all raw materials (preforms, resins, colors, corrugation, etc.) and finished goods being staged or produced for and by production. Helps maintain standard housekeeping in accordance with Third Party regulations. Assists with the operation of other downstream equipment under the direction of the Production Supervisor or an assigned person. In this position you may also assist with the packing of finished goods under the direction of the Production Supervisor (per Bottle Packer job description) or an assigned person.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Volunteer, be assigned to assist and/or be a backup in the Food Safety Programs.
  • Volunteer, be assigned to assist and/or be a backup in the Employee Safety Program.
  • Assist in maintaining a high degree of cleanliness in the production area in accordance with Third Party regulations.
  • Maintain raw materials (boxes, resins, tape, plastics bags, etc.) to the appropriate levels in the production area.
  • Stage raw material (resins, preforms, boxes, bags, skids, etc.) for bottle packers and/or production equipment.
  • Verify/Identify raw materials and prepare them to be returned to inventory per in-house procedures if not required by the production floor (proper procedure for identification of materials and inventory tags).
  • Maintain the scrap regrind area, ensuring the area is clean and regrind gaylords are maintained appropriately.
  • Maintain used preform gaylords in an orderly fashion.
  • Maintain scrap corrugation by shift end, discarding or baling.
  • Assist with the operation of other downstream equipment under close direction of the Production Supervisor and/or an assigned person.
  • Help set-up or removal of all secondary equipment for production (decorators, box erectors, tapers, etc.) as assigned.
  • Help clear line jams from equipment with no assistance.
  • Complete all machine cleaning tasks, including preforms, color change outs, and/or contaminated material clean outs on equipment.
  • Help clear line jams from equipment.
  • Assist co-workers where needed and/or be assigned additional tasks within this job classification and/or below classifications.
Experience/

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent GED, and a demonstrated ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

  • Must have completed in-house/companies forklift certification.
  • Requires constant visual attention ability to discern flaws in materials and finished goods (containers).
  • Material Handler must have positive attendance points to continue in the cross-training programs.
  • Must complete appropriate training class, pertaining to job classification, within 90 days. This class will be pre-arranged by Management (if applicable).
Physical Requirements:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift to 40–45 pounds above the head frequently and 45–50 pounds above the head occasionally.
