CompensationHourly: $28.20 to $41.97. Actual rate will depend on experience, education, etc.
DescriptionThe Lactation Consultant plays a vital role in enhancing the breastfeeding experience for expectant and new parents on the LDRP unit at Meritus Medical Center. This position provides education, support, counseling, and hands‑on assistance to patients and families while collaborating closely with medical and nursing staff to assess, manage, and resolve breastfeeding challenges. The Lactation Consultant also serves as a clinical resource for staff, promoting evidence‑based lactation practices and optimal maternal–infant outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide individualized breastfeeding education, support, and counseling to expectant and postpartum parents.
- Deliver direct patient care, including assessment and management of breastfeeding and lactation concerns.
- Develop and implement plans of care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Support and educate nursing and clinical staff on lactation best practices and current evidence‑based guidelines.
- Identify, assess, and manage common and complex breastfeeding issues.
- Promote a supportive, family‑centered approach to breastfeeding within the LDRP unit.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Serve as a leader and resource for lactation‑related initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred) OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in a health‑related field.
ExperienceMinimum of three (3) years of experience in Women’s Health, including patient education.
Demonstrated experience in a leadership or advanced practice role.
Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain strong organizational skills.
- Previous experience in an LDRP or Mother‑Baby unit preferred.
Certifications in lactation specialty (attained and maintained). Current BLS required.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesWork performed in a modern well‑equipped environment. Interfaces with a large diversity of customers. Performance of routine duties requires assisting and using patient care equipment mostly related to breastfeeding as well as office equipment.
