Job SummaryManages the daily operations of the bakery department, enhances customer confidence and loyalty through consistent and compliant operating conditions, and provides fresh, appealing products with courteous, knowledgeable and prompt service.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)- Department Overall Satisfaction % – gauges the customer experience in terms of assortment, cleanliness, freshness, staff friendliness and stock availability.
- Sales to Purchase % – ensures the department is profitable by forecasting correctly and ordering as needed.
- Production Planning Compliance % – positions the department for strong sales by providing good information into the system.
- Service (40%)
- Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated to help build and retain customer confidence and loyalty.
- Ensures the department is merchandised per plan, meets shelf‑product availability, freshness, quality and value.
- Trains associates on freshness, inventory levels, stocking, ordering and shelf‑conditioning.
- Assists customers in locating or suggesting product and fulfills customer requests and special orders.
- Leadership (19%)
- Promotes trust and respect among associates through collaboration, teamwork and clear communication.
- Establishes goals for merchandising, sales and profits and empowers the team to meet or exceed them.
- Develops adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout operating hours.
- Adheres to all laws and company guidelines.
- Financial (20%)
- Completes daily and weekly administrative tasks (communications, online training, scheduling, pricing changes, orders, etc.).
- Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions, reports discrepancies, and reviews products for quality and freshness.
- Plans, organizes, and performs inventory processes using production planning tools.
- Ensures proper temperature storage per food safety guidelines and retains temperature log documentation.
- Compliance / Safety (20%)
- Ensures company safety standards, food handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained.
- Adheres to regulatory compliance (USDA, COOL, DOA) and executes all product recalls/withdrawals timely.
- Reinforces safety programs, reports unsafe conditions, and ensures staff training and PPE usage.
- Monitors wage and hour policies, cultivates safety culture, and ensures equipment maintenance.
High School / GED.
Relevant ExperienceSupervisory Experience – 3 to 6 years minimum; 1 to 5 years minimum for certain duties.
Language(s) RequiredEnglish.
Language(s) PreferredEnglish & Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Must be 18 years old; authorized to work in the United States or able to obtain authorization.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check.
- Strong customer service skills; exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
- Basic math knowledge.
- Operate bakery equipment safely and perform basic cake decorating and baking skills.
- Proficient with relevant computer applications.
- Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days.
- Retail – Bakery:
Physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity, reaching, carrying, and lifting up to 35 lbs; occasional climbing up to 10 ft. - Working conditions include indoor, outdoor, cold, heated, and wet/humid environments.
- Safety risks involve slippery surfaces, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, and exposure to cleaning agents.
- Required equipment: cleaning supplies, office equipment, registers, pricing guns, scales, scanners, material handling equipment, and bakery‑specific tools.
- Personal protective equipment: goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, fryer gloves, oven gloves, and back brace.
- Lifting requirement: 35 lbs; pulling requirement: 250 lbs.
Occasional – No overnight travel.
