Technicians assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations.

Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication. They demonstrate genuine care and contribute to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

Responsibilities
  • Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help our Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
  • Following pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
  • Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; and solving or escalating patient problems
  • Completing basic inventory activities, as permitted by law and directed by the pharmacy leadership team, such as stocking deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories
  • Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and being receptive to feedback; actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to assist patients
  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs; willing to travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; complying with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, recordkeeping, and patient privacy and security
  • Delivering additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and staffing offsite clinics where permitted by law and supported by training and certification)
Immunization responsibilities
  • Completing licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status to assist with vaccines where allowed by state Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Educating patients about vaccines and referring vaccine questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting for each applicable patient
  • Managing vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification
  • If the state board does not address a minimum age requirement, must be at least 16 years old
  • If the state board does not address a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
