Prodigy is in search of a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team on a 5-month fixed-term contract for a project in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As an integral part of the team, the Health and Safety Coordinator will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, workers, clients, consultants, and regulatory inspectors to ensure company safety standards, provincial requirements, and site-specific procedures are consistently followed.

Responsibilities

Enforce Prodigy’s Occupational Health and Safety Program, applicable provincial legislation, and prescribed regulations by performing project site safety inspections, outlining observations, hazards, and non-compliance within written reports, and following up with recommendations.

Conduct site orientations for workers, visitors, and subcontractors.

Assist project staff with the setup and maintenance of safety equipment, signage, and emergency response procedures throughout the project.

Gather safety documentation from subcontractors and ensure all required documents are uploaded into Prodigy’s software platform.

Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the company’s health and safety management system.

Facilitate timely accident/incident investigations and provide recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.

Assist with the development of training materials, policies, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and site‑specific safety plans.

Conduct regular field inspections, audits, and hazard assessments on active construction sites.

Monitor worker and subcontractor compliance with provincial safety regulations, company policies, and site‑specific requirements.

Participate in Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and pre‑task planning activities.

Track, document, and follow up on corrective actions and safety deficiencies until completion.

Assist supervisors and project teams with implementing corrective measures to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.

Coordinate toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and safety communications.

Promote worker engagement and proactive hazard/near‑miss reporting across all project sites.

Support emergency preparedness activities including fire drills, evacuations, and incident response coordination.

Maintain accurate records related to inspections, training, orientations, incidents, and safety statistics.

Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory inspectors during site visits and inspections when required.

Assist with workers’ compensation documentation and return‑to‑work coordination.

Monitor housekeeping standards, access/egress routes, fall protection systems, ladders, scaffolds, and PPE compliance throughout the project.

Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen overall safety performance and culture.
