Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Coordinator in Parks and Recreation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Summer Coordinator plans and organizes recreational programs and schedules facilities for a variety of age groups. They design curriculum and supports persons with disabilities in programs (i.e. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.). Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as planning, implementing, promoting, supervising, and evaluating day camp staff; scheduling, supervising, motivating, and evaluating Summer Program Instructors;

managing risks, ensuring participant safety; inventories, distributes and collects equipment and supplies; handling administrative duties, networking with community groups and organizations; organizing special events and outings, submitting regular reports, tracking statistics; maintaining a budget and organizing staff meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • At least one season/summer of experience leading preschoolers/children/youth in a recreational setting and designing program curriculum
  • Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development
  • At least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skills
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Experience teaching sport an asset
  • Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
  • Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
  • Successful completion of all training requirements prior to start date
  • Access to a reliable vehicle may be required for some positions
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

    Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check.

    Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

    WORK STATUS: Seasonal - May 18th 2026 to August 28th 2026

    HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm. Must be flexible/some evening and weekend work required

    SALARY: Non Union, $21.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

    WORK LOCATION: Various Community Recreation Centres in the Halifax Regional Municipality
