The Youth Support Worker plays a key role in empowering at-promised youth through recruitment, training, mentorship, and individualized support. This position is responsible for guiding participants through job and life skills development, conducting needs assessments, administering performance evaluations, and supporting high school credit applications. The incumbent is also responsible for the research, design, development, implementation, and facilitation of the Job and Life Skills Development training.

In addition to supporting participants, the Youth Support Worker also provides continued mentorship to those who transition into casual staff roles within Youth Worx. This includes overseeing recruitment efforts, providing ongoing support, ensuring their work aligns with program objectives, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment to strengthen overall service delivery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Conduct and coordinate the recruitment and hiring process for Youth Worx participants and casual Youth Worx staff; maintain online applicant tracking system, facilitate information sessions, conduct assessments and interviews, complete reference checks and respond to information queries via phone, email, website, and Instagram.
  • Support the onboarding and orientation of casual staff, ensuring familiarity with organizational policies, safety procedures, and role expectations.
  • Coaching, Support and Training
  • Facilitate performance development sessions with program participants, including conducting assessments and reinforcing behavioural expectations and program guidelines.
  • Recommend and implement courses of action for performance improvement with program participants using positive reinforcement and individualized strategies; conduct follow-up meetings to monitor progress.
  • Act as a support for casual employees, providing guidance, mentorship, and support throughout their assignments.
  • Monitor casual staff performance through observation, informal check-ins, and feedback from Operations Supervisors.
  • Provide real-time coaching to help casual staff develop core skills, including customer service, communication, and teamwork.
  • Maintain accurate records related to casual staff development, feedback, and performance improvement plans.
  • Facilitate post program assessment and evaluation for program participants.
  • First point of contact in the complaint resolution process for program participants; escalates complex issues to the Manager, Youth Worx
  • Coordinate training and/or delivery of certifications in Job experience modules, Food Safety, First Aid, Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT) and WHMIS for program participants and casual staff.
  • Develop and deliver job readiness/life skills modules and special events for program participants and casual staff.
  • Facilitate career development through internal and external agencies; provide guidance to program participants on future job or educational goals.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with appropriate internal and external contacts.

  • Develop, implement, and re-evaluate program guidelines and procedures as required.
  • Track training compliance and ensure all casual staff meet mandatory certification and policy requirements.
